On Why People Wear Make Up

Written November 17, 2009

In general, I think people wear make up because they are unhappy with the way they look. When they notice something they don’t like, they try to cover it up with make up. For many people, one large zit = not leaving the house. That is when they turn to make up to give this illusion that their imperfection doesn’t exist. Thus, nearly everyone who wears make up is self-conscious.

My grandma disagrees. She says people wear make up to accentuate their natural features. But here’s my response: Why would you put fake stuff on your face in order to accentuate your natural features? That is called covering your natural features. The goal is to not look like your natural self because you’re unhappy with your natural self. Imperfections are individuality. People should just accept themselves, and if people could do that they would learn to accept other people’s imperfections as well. Why should you care about what you look like if your looks are going to keep changing throughout your life? At some point, we’ll all be old and wrinkly. And maybe have blotchy skin. Can’t stay good looking forever.

Personally, I love when people don’t wear make up. It makes them seem more confident in themselves and probably are more understanding and accepting. I’m sorry to all of you who think you’re ugly and wear make up to make yourself prettier. Fake isn’t pretty. If you don’t naturally look as pretty as you want, you’ll stay like that unless you get plastic surgery. Real beautiful people are the ones who accept themselves and others. Being able to do that is a beautiful (and rare) thing.

I originally thought about writing an entry about make up after watching Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew. All of the women on that show were caked with make up because they put up a front and hide themselves under their make up. It was therapeutic for them when they were told not to wear make up one day. They broke down and admitted they don’t feel good without make up. One woman went as far as saying she wears make up because when she was a child, others told her she looked like a boy. WTF. First off, that person is an ass. And second, she looks very much female. An insult at a young age can change someone forever.

You do realize that by shaving, plucking eyebrows, piercing, and getting tattoos you’re changing your natural self?
People shave and pluck eyebrows for hygine purposes.
People get piercings and tattoos to express themselves.
Girls wear makeup which doesn’t only give them extra confidence, but it also shows what type of person they are. Simple foundation can equal to a down to earth girl, heavy makeup can equal to a materalistic girl. I’m not justifying girls who put on a pound of makeup, but rather girls who wear makeup for a little boost of confidence, and who doesn’t need that little boost of confidece in today’s judgemental society. And for girls who don’t wear makeup more power to you, but that doesn’t give you the right to look down on girls who do.

    • This entry has nothing to do with shaving, plucking eyebrows, piercing, and getting tattoos. 😛 And people don’t pluck their eyebrows for hygiene purposes. That’s asthetic right there. I don’t pluck my eyebrows – don’t need to. You saying my eyebrows are dirty? LOL.

How can eyebrows be dirty? Anyways, no I’m not, but getting rid of unnecessary hair is hyginene to me. Anyways you should put up your old old poems!
